In Destination Inner Space (2013), Landvreugd reflected on the different sources that create the uniqueness of what may be described as a Continental European Blackness. The visual and aural bombardment of styles, the mash up of spoken word, music, reversals and song surmounted in a catchy performance if one had the chance to witness it.
In movt nr. 8: Lobi Singi (2015), he takes up the legacy of James Baldwin, Jean Genet, Robert Mapplethorpe and mixes them up with contemporary images of what Black masculinity is constructed to look like. A mix and match collage video work appears with a twist about the unspoken, the unseen and the silenced. It is up to the viewer to decide whether to question the content or their attitude to the subject.
movt. nr.8: Lobi Singi (2015) has been shown at STAN/JAN Show: ‘De Exotische Witte’ en ‘De Exotische Zwarte’ (The Exotic White en The Exotic Black) at De Balie in Amsterdam and at gallery RAM Foundation‘s exhibition ‘Identity and The Self’ starting 18 January 2014 in Rotterdam.
